Outreach.io sending warning to their customers about Google tightening spam rules is no news...
For anyone doing cold email volume, we've been hit by a Google Spam wave around 12 months ago. And here we are with 60% + open rates today.
1) Google sorta sucks at AI and is declining as a company. their challenge is to distinguish newsletter from cold email. Or cold email from personal email. I don't think they'll be on any track to do that. They already flag a bunch of emails as spam that aren't spam. This means that other mail clients are popping and that google will loose market share. The monopolies about to end with more agile players coming in.
2) I'm not buying Google Workspace for that reason, as a guy that personally has over 100 mailbox, that's good money loss for google. the last folks I've seen blockading cold emailers have been ZoomInfo and look were they're at right now. I don't see a good future for Google. Contr take, but watch them loose market share and fall in less than 20 years.
3) The rules don't change, if you're sending good stuff to the right folks, and always add value, spam won't ever be a problem
4) these linkedin posts warning you about cold email apocalypse are mostly scaring tactics or great content for folks that rely on linkedin likes for a living
5) AI features will now be even more relevant. AIs prompted right can write really relevant emails. I AB tested Amplemarket's AI features and they're pretty on point.
6) Apollo.io's integration with SendGrid is still doing very well. Apollo recently offered 5 mailboxes per account. if you send under 100 emails per mailboxes, you're more then safe. I was sending 500 emails per mailbox in my prime, and maintained a 40% open rate.
Bottom line: cold email will continue thriving, even with google having a tantrum, even with AI.
