Holidays are coming up. The “oh shit I don’t have any clients renewing period” is likely coming up if you’re an agency or b2b SAAS.
Here’s my remedy: the annual brainwash, brought to you by yours truly.
A business is an independent cash-generating machine. It should generate cash at all times, regardless of external circumstances. Problem is that business owners add their mindset to it. “Business is closed during holidays / everyone’s on holidays at this time.”
Look, if you need holidays, and time to relax, I respect that. What I don’t respect is excuses. Your business may still function while you take a break. Meetings can still be taken, and revenues can still flow in, even at this time of the year.
My role here is to tell you that there’s another world on the other side of the “Closed for Holidays” door. Meetings in your calendar. Obsessed CEOs/founders/corporate ladder climbers still working and doing business during holidays, willing to do business with you, even on the 26th of December. Non-christian folks, not celebrating X-mas, still doing business as usual. The world doesn’t stop turning for 2 weeks.
Now that I made my point, you decide if you have the capacity to keep your business open during that time. I’ve put in a place a 24/7 business that doesn’t stop, and business will continue for me around that time, even if I take a break.
Finally, I’ve seen my fair share of entrepreneurs disadvantaged by a slow start in their new year. They come out the gates all energetic and ambitious and find themselves not closing any new deals until February. This is for 1 reason: they have stopped prospecting, and sales cycles caught them in a dead angle.
You don’t want to stop the machine. You don’t want to lose velocity, especially in this key moment. Have an agency prepare you for early year success. Prepare your pipeline.
Point made. Lobotomy done. I’m out.
