If you know me you know how big I am about biohacking. My Theory of Biochemistry of Everything™ has me see the world in states. Some people are energized and smart: they are successful. Most are zombies and just get by: their lives would change once biohacked. They would stop forgetting and start caring. This and my Psychological Theory of Biases™ constitute 80% of my worldview. More on that later.
If you run a podcast, the interview quality depends on you and your brain. Even the most boring guest on Earth has stories to tell, you need to be smart enough to fetch these and to get the guest comfortable enough to share them. Which means: it’s all on you.
There is some preparation to be done on pods: GPT may provide you with that in 5 seconds. You may get fancy and read blocks and blocks about guests, but the truth is: that most of the value points are in your state.
If you get in a biohacked state before your pod, you may hit a Flow State that will create amazing content. Your guests will mimick your state and body and a great pod will ensue.
Here are 7 tips to get biohacked before your podcast:
Supplements
So I take loads of supplements, but for the sake of energy and podcasting, I’d recommend a couple. Caffeine of course but you may already have that in your system through coffee. I’d go with omega 3 (krill), Creatine (energy), CoQ10 (cell energy), CBD (if you have jitters), NAD+ (cell energy), Curcumin, B6, B12, Bacopa Monieri, L-Tyrosine and Piracetam. Try these 1 by 1 and see how your body and brain reacts.
Jumping and moving
Tony Robbins loves jumping before and while on stage. I do shadow boxing before interviewing famous people on my podcast. Gets me focused and activated.
Wim Hof Breathing
If I am tired before a pod, I’ll hit the Wim Hof Breathing. I’ll youtube “wim hof breathing 10 mins” and will follow the rapid breathing sequence. This is nice oxygen right before the pod.
Visualization
I visualize myself asking great questions during the podcast, seeing the guest smiling from the great questions and getting thousands of views from our podcast.
Not eating heavily before
Heavy food is a brain killer. Don’t eat a crappy pizza before the pod, most of your bodily energy will be consumed by that. And if you do, practice the above and below, at least.
HIITs
I’ve done podcasts right after HIITs and man did I get in the flow state during the podcast after. I was sweaty and all sure, but the cocktail of chemicals HIITs release is crazy: you get very relaxed, alpha and energized. I generally recommend to do 1 of these per day. Maybe not right before the pod, but in the morning so that you get the time to shower :)
Drinks
My workout desk is always full of energy potions: black coffee, rare teas (coca teas are my favourite), pre-workouts, and mineral water. Have these drinks during the pod and drink (cheers) as the guest is answering your questions. Pro tip: I’m starting a Mezcal Sunsets podcast, in which Joe Rogan style, I’ll have guests on my roof here in Oaxaca, and we’ll sip mezcal while watching the sun go down. Only involve light alcohol once pro-level as most get sloppy on it. Alcohol relaxes you and may get you into flow (1 drink). It may produce the type of content you want.
