couple of lessons from today’s 30km:
we run because it is boring, not cuz we like it. The pain demon will always resurface, and fighting it is the name of the game. 30 km means at least 300 “fuck offs” to my demons telling me to stop, telling me I wasn’t in shape, telling me this is insane. i’m talking to entrepreneurs who can’t bear much pain. they only go after “fun”. well ima tell you this journey is not just fun, so either change this brain of yours or go back fetching an easy job.
pain is the greatest source of wisdom, hence why i listen to folks like David Goggins more than the Seth Godins of this world. coming from an intellectual who’s been reading/writing 10k words a day for the past 10 years: there is much more to be learned in the realm of pain than in the intellectual realm.
Running forces meditation. As if I stress, my gut hurts, which brings more stress. Negative cycle. So I’m trying to focus on mental peace why in pain. Retraining your brain that way makes you a chill person who defuse conflicts.
Micro-gamifying goals is the best way to go. You don’t wanna look to the summit, you wanna look to what’s right in front of you. “Okay in 5mins I get water". “Okay in 10mins I get music.” Same for my billion-dollar ambitions. micro victories need to be celebrated for motivation to keep producing propulsion.
Set pyramidal goals and don’t think about getting into them. Do you do Apple HIITs with Bakari? These workouts are not only pyramid-scientific, but also Bakari doesn’t fucking mess around. He’ll go brutal on you and give you very short breaks. When it’s time to go, you go. The mind is great at creating cortisol and questioning life. Don’t let it. Feed it serotonin to get to the runner’s high. Ditch analysis paralysis and go accomplish the impossible.
Don’t question the planner in your mind. The running mule is stimulated by immediate goals. It’s quite reptilian. The planner will analyze later what could have been improved later. The mule just runs. It doesn’t think much. This is my main key to productivity in business, pre-AGI. I separate planner and executer. You can’t have these 2 on the same boat in choppy seas.
if you don’t mind seeing a bare-chested/unapolgethic man relate his experience, watch this:
